Whisky, the drink of men, is to be savored. Not to drink in abandon, or recklessness.
Nor should we think that expense means excellence. The cost is actually irrelevant.
The quality of any whisky, as any person, is in their character. I have for you today
a unique find. One that shows us that quality is found through each of our own
personal taste. Not controlled through media or advertisement.
For your tasting experience I offer that the taste of the week. Pike Creek, 10 year old
Canadian Whisky, Double Barreled using Port Barrels. For those who are not lovers
of Canadian Whisky, keep reading, as this bottle offers a rare opportunity. Many of
us in Canada are used to paying up to 100$ for a choice bottle. You can add this
bottle to your regular manly activities for a third of that price.
Enough rhetoric, let’s get into it. For the price point, there is not much of a better
opportunity to have a drink that you can share with your friends with little concern
of cost, or taste. This is a 10 year old whisky blend; therefore the various vintage
whiskys included must be of that age, and quality.
Nose: fruity and light, a bit of red wine. Depending upon your taste, you may find
nut and muffins like your mother made, or at your local bakery. Then the taste: lots
of fruit and spices: ginger and a bit of oak. Personally, I taste some grapefruit and
honey. If you hold it in your mouth the spicy and pepper tastes become more
apparent. As Gentleman never rush, so you can find all of these tastes in under a
minute. Patience is a virtue, even with whisky.
Finally the finish: Regular folk finish their drink and appreciate it, but then look on
to their next experience. Gentleman recognize the important of the beginning,
middle and the end. Take some time and recognize what you have been given to
your palate. Swallow and after about 15 seconds you will experience a bit of
warmth followed by a bit of citrus and a mild woody sensation.
Overall this bottle, is remarkably balanced and flavorful for any blend of this age. I
give this bottle a rating of 90. It’s price point makes it very attractive to us
gentleman, and could be a potential treat for our partners. The price point makes it
a wonderful choice to have in our cabinet to share with friends and enjoy on a cold
winter night. I plan to buy a few bottles to get me, and my loved ones, through the
cold season. Perhaps you should do the same. I look forward to sharing many
bottles together. Yours, Sir John A. Cask
